5 people have been arrested in Italy in connection with a fake newspaper sting operation.
The newspaper has been accused of promoting the fake news and distributing images of police and military.
A police raid on the newspaper’s offices in Milan has led to the arrests of two people.
Italian media said it had received anonymous complaints from two journalists that a newspaper was distributing images from a real-life video broadcast on social media.
The fake newspaper was the result of a joint investigation by the regional police, the Federal Police and the Internal Affairs Ministry.
“A video was made showing the police and a military, including the commander, and two journalists of the news agency,” said a statement on the Italian national radio station.
The police claim they received a tip-off about the operation from an anonymous tip-line and arrested the journalists, who are now being held on suspicion of criminal defamation.
The investigation is continuing.
