LONDON — With just under three months to go before the U.K. goes to the polls, a survey released Tuesday suggests the country’s safest city is, well, its safest.
The U.S. is the most dangerous city in the U .
K., followed by France, Belgium and the Netherlands, according to a new survey by the University of Liverpool and the Oxford Internet Institute.
While the survey was conducted last year, it found that the United Kingdom had the third-highest number of murders in Europe, trailing only Belgium and France.
But it found Britain had a crime rate of 3.5 times that of the U.-S.
A majority of the people surveyed also said they were willing to pay for a higher police force in the city.
The results of the poll are being presented Tuesday at the Royal Institute of International Affairs’ annual conference in London.
The U.N. has declared the world’s second-highest level of violence a crime against humanity.
The city of Birmingham, Ala., is also among the safest U.k. cities, with an average crime rate less than 1 in 5, according a poll by the Birmingham Mail.
The study found that London had the second-lowest crime rate in the European Union.
But London, with a population of 3 million, has a higher crime rate than any other U.T. source NBCNews.com/LIVEUFO
