Minneapolis-based The American Conservatives is launching a new project this week to “examine the credibility and accuracy of media reports” based on “research that we believe is critical to our understanding of what is happening in the media environment.”
The project is being led by a research team led by Dr. Sarah Jones and Dr. Amy Davis at the University of Minnesota, who will conduct research in Minneapolis and Honduras. “
The project aims to provide a comprehensive look at the state of media reporting, the role of corporate media in shaping public opinion, and the role that newspapers and television news outlets play in shaping media narratives,” The American Conservats said in a press release.
The project is being led by a research team led by Dr. Sarah Jones and Dr. Amy Davis at the University of Minnesota, who will conduct research in Minneapolis and Honduras.
The team is also working on a follow-up project that will examine “the accuracy of news coverage in the United States and around the world” as well as “the impact of media outlets on Americans’ political views and behavior.”
The research team is looking at “media sources that are widely trusted and used in the US, including print and online media, TV, radio, social media, and blogs.”
The project aims “to answer the following questions: Why do news outlets sometimes report stories that are inaccurate, biased, and inaccurate?”
And “How accurate are news stories?
What types of coverage is accurate, and how does that differ from what is reported in print or online?”
The project will also look at “the role of newspapers and newsrooms in shaping the public opinion of the US and in the world.”
The American conservatives, which is funded by the Charles G. Koch Foundation, says its research will be published “on the web, in print, and in online form.”
The news outlets the project is examining include the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The New York Post, CNN, the Washington Post, the Associated Press, Fox News, and others.
A spokesperson for The American conservative told The Daily Caller News Foundation “this is an exciting project.”
“The goal of our project is to help make sure the American media are informed and accurate,” the spokesperson said.
“We are interested in making sure that our research and analysis are fully informed, objective, and free from bias.”
The group says its project is a response to recent reports about how the Trump administration has sought to suppress the voices of women and minorities, as well the growing use of social media to attack reporters.
The American conservatism claims its work will be available to the public “through the online archives of the American Conservative.org website.”
The publication’s website, The American, was launched in April 2017 by the Koch-funded Cato Institute and the libertarian Cato Institute.
